Em•pa•na•da

That’s pie to you and me. These crusty portable packages stuffed with scrumptious sweet or savory fillings are an entrenched favourite all across Latin America- especially as street food on feast days and high days.

You will know their more famous cousins across the sea in the form of Cornish Pasties and Calzone. Empanada meaning to ‘enbread’ or coat, originally hailed from Galicia in Spain .

There are so many varieties of these soft dough pockets that they have come to reflect the diversity of the Nations themselves! Ours reflected is open bellied as to show off its delicious veggie and cheese interior!

E is for empanada pie
